Children's Habilitation Center

Serves as a Pediatric Clinical rotation site to several areas and out of area Nursing Programs and a Respiratory Therapy Program. Our facility offers an exceptional pediatric experience.

The Staff Development Department holds the responsibility of ongoing education for all staff, coordinating orientation of all nursing personnel and preceptorship for new nursing staff, CPR instruction, evaluating potential new admission, parent training prior to a child's discharge home, administering immunizations to residents, and interviewing new nursing personnel.

Year around, we host to students from Moraine Valley Community College, ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) students, Olive Harvey College, ADN students, Everest College of Merrillville Indiana Licensed Practical Nursing students, South Suburban College, ADN students, and Olive Harvey College, Respiratory Therapy students. CHC coordinates nursing school clinical rotations that consist of two eight hours days with hands on experience with our residents. Many CHC staff members have advanced their own education through these same programs. We encourage and support continuing education. (See Tuition Reimbursement).

To fulfill Children's Habilitation Center's mission to provide services between an acute care hospital and home, to provide a bridge to tomorrow for infants and children with high medical needs, we believe it is necessary to promote and encourage the growth and personal fulfillment of our fellow employees. By fostering the personal career advancement of the Center's employees, the Center will continue to improve the quality of its care and services. The career advancement program is intended to assist in this effort, by offering tuition support for those desiring to advance in the health care or educational fields.

CHC will provide advanced tuition funding for area community college programs that offer degrees or certifications in health care or education that are consistent with employment opportunities at CHC.
